Self acceptance & positive thinking: the answer

“How do you stay so positive?”

I have been asked this many times in my fourteen years of life.
I’m here to answer the frequently asked question.

Quite honestly, I’m not sure how I stay so positive and upbeat. I think it has a lot to do with self acceptance and trying to stay optimistic. It’s a hard thing to do, especially after we have only learned to highlight our flaws and to only expect bad things to happen.

I’m chronically ill, I’ve learned accept that I’m not able to do what most people can, and I’m okay with that.

I will probably have to continue going through many different treatments and to new doctors, hospitals etc.
I have accepted that also.

It’s so hard to fully accept the things you cannot change. It really is, but it is not impossible.

It’s so hard to have to stay positive, especially whenever life likes to constantly throw curveballs at me.
But you know what, that’s okay.

It’s okay to not always be happy.

It’s okay to feel vulnerable. You don’t always have to throw on a smile and tell everyone you’re “fine”.

That’s just not reality.

But what you should do is no matter how bad your day is, think of three things that made you happy that day.

Even if it is something as simple as going outside or someone holding a door open for you.

Start trying to pick out some of the positives in a negative situation.

The key to a happy life is self acceptance and a positive mind set.

I truly believe that good things come to those who wait, or those who are patient and positive.

I believe in you. Stay hopeful.
